The historic center of the city has developed as a craft and craftsman's settlement around the Āži Pub, which was built around 1840. Viesite in 1928 gained the status, name and emblem of the city.
Going on a trip or visiting the town of Viesite, we will start at the Small Banitis Park on Brodeles Street 7, where 7 station building buildings can be seen. In the summer of 2003, during the Days of Post-war Heritage, the Blue Flag of the European Cultural Heritage Day was raised at Viesite Palace of Culture.
Continuing to get to know the historic center of Viesite, walking along Raiņa Street, the oldest building in the city - Āžu krogs, built around 1840 - has to be seen. Brivibas street 2 is one of the oldest pharmacies in Latvia. It was founded by pharmacist Karl Osterhof in 1884. The pharmacy in the building operates from the date of construction to the present, it stores the old pharmacy equipment. Going or driving through Brivibas street you can see the wooden building of Viesite. The next most important historical site is the Viesites Freedom Monument, a symbol of freedom, independence and commemoration for the defenders of the 1919 Viesit defenders against the Bermondas. At the same time, on the other side of Brivibas Street, on the Valeskalnina, the columns of the eve. lut Viesite Church of the Freedom, architect Pauls Kundziņš's last designed church in Latvia, erected in 1939. Since ancient times, it has been a favorite place for lovers, but not everyone knows where the Tree of Love grows. From the Love Island, through the Love Trail, you can reach Lake Mazajas, look at the Health Foot, which has more than 60 medicinal plants, Pīlādī avenue in honor of the centenary of Latvia, and staying in the "Paula Stradina School" section of the Viesīte Museum "Sēlija".
