Pauls Sukatnieks was not only a vine-breeder recognized in Latvia; his breeds are also popular far beyond the borders of Latvia. He remained faithful to his family home his entire life, he was also a writer and a local historian. After the breeder's death his carefully tended garden was neglected for a couple of decades but now it has regained its lustre. One could hardly find a country in our latitude where people do not know or grow his vines. The gardener's homestead Apsītes features his many collections and talents and allows to discover secrets of vine-growing. During the summer-autumn season, visitors can see the plants, taste different varieties of grapes and attend events. The Nature Park Dvietes paliene (Dviete flood-plains) is nearby.
